André Allen

Marketing Officer

Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise, risking more than others think is safe, dreaming more than others think is practical and expecting more than others think is possible.

André Allen is no stranger to the Central Iowa community, having spent the last 36 years as a participant of the DMPS system, DMPS athlete & graduate, University of Northern Iowa football start and four-year graduate to fitness chef, Speaker, to Board members, Community leader, Mentor(ship), to father to Executive. Board Member to many organizations.

Before joining Black Excellence, André Allen has spent the last 20 years working for a diverse range of organizations and sectors, including Startups, Insurance, Agricultural, Government, Private and Non Profit, Health, Financial, Sporting, Technology and Retail.

André grew up in King-Irvin neighborhood during the critical time of a heighten crime, drug trafficking and prostitution. From the country side of Itta Bena, Mississippi to the low income living in Des Moines, Iowa, while attending North High School he dreamed of one day living a life where his environment would not negate his position in life. So after graduation he accepted a full scholarship to the University of Northern Iowa where he became one of the most feared Linebackers in the game of football. So much in fact, that his performance on the field caught the attention of several NFL scouts.

After graduation from college his dreams become reality when he received a call from his agent telling him that he was offered a contract as an undrafted free agent to the Philadelphia Eagles. After a two year bid in the NFL, André’s career carried him to London, England and the World Football League where he played for the London Monarchs. After his stint overseas his gift took him to yet another country, Canada. This is where he played for the Montreal Alouettes and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.

“It feels wonderful!” he replied. “I couldn’t have prayed for a better life! I have been truly blessed and highly favored!”

His advice to all those who follow in his footsteps, including his sons, is to be conscious of your decisions. More importantly, take responsibility for the consequences they bring. When struggling with your passions and goals, be patient and NEVER give up! You’ll eventually get your shot. Expect disappointments because they will happen over and over again. Just never forget who you are or your values.

André currently holds a B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa & B.A. from Hamilton Business college and a Masters of Business Administration/Technology Management from the University of Phoenix. In addition, he carries other certifications and leadership trainings .

André  has three sons, André (AJ) Allen—25, Trevor Allen—24 & Ayden Allen (17).
